Sometimes, we all need to take a step back and relax. The stress of everyday life affects us all. It may come in different forms, but it is something we all experience. That’s why it’s important to acknowledge it and find time to relax our body, mind, and soul.
There are many ways to unwind, and each of us has our own preferences. As someone who is highly sensitive and tends to overthink, I often find myself feeling stressed – even when it’s unnecessary. So, here are my personal methods for relaxation and boosting my mood.
Pamper Yourself
Whenever you feel stressed or tired, taking a bath or shower is one of the best ways to relax and wash away negativity. Feeling sad? Angry? Overwhelmed? Hot water is your savior. Add a few drops of essential oil – either to your bath or the shower floor. (I love lavender, but any scent you enjoy will work just as well.) This simple touch enhances the experience, bringing even more comfort and relaxation.
Put on a face mask and let your thoughts take you somewhere calm and beautiful. Follow up with a skincare routine: apply a serum, moisturize your skin, and for extra nourishment, seal it all in with a light layer of facial oil. Take care of your hair as well, whether by using a hair mask, hair conditioner, hair cream and/or a bit of hair oil.
And just like that – you’re a radiant queen (or princess) who has just enjoyed her well-deserved beauty time!
Put Your Thoughts and Feelings on Paper
I believe journaling has a kind of magic – it helps us process our thoughts, understand our feelings and emotions, and gain insights into questions we sometimes struggle to answer.
When you feel stuck or unsure about the direction to take, try keeping a journal. Writing things down can help you untangle your thoughts and see things from a fresh perspective. Sometimes, we forget our own thoughts or events that took place, but a journal helps keep track of everything. Then, when the time comes, you can look back and analyze your situation from a new point of view.
Journaling is also a great way to preserve memories – both positive and negative. When something beautiful happens, writing about it allows you to relive that happiness later. When you’re experiencing negative emotions, journaling can serve as a release. If you don’t want to keep those thoughts in your journal, write them on a separate piece of paper and burn it – symbolically letting go of that negativity. You can do the same when you’re angry or disappointed with someone, helping you process your emotions and move towards forgiveness. Always remember: kindness is important – not just for others but also for your own well-being.
Another journaling idea I love is setting personal goals. Just like New Year’s resolutions, you don’t need to wait for a specific time to set intentions for yourself.
Here’s an idea: Close your eyes and picture the woman you want to become. What does she do? How does she carry herself? What kind of energy does she bring into a room? How does she interact with others? Now, think about what you need to do to become her – and write it all down in a list.
Another wonderful way to relax your mind is painting. Whether or not you consider yourself an artist, painting allows you to express emotions visually, calm your mind, and awaken your creativity. Whenever I feel down, even a little bit of painting helps me feel more at peace.
Relax Your Body and Mind
Exercise (or, in my case, yoga, because I love it) might seem exhausting at first. Often, we feel too lazy or busy to start – but once we do, our body rewards us. Physical activity releases happy hormones like endorphins, dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin, which improve mood, regulate sleep, and reduce stress. So, next time you have 15 minutes to spare, roll out your yoga mat and give your body and mind the care they deserve.
Meditation is another powerful way to relieve stress and anxiety. Like exercise, it boosts happy hormones and lowers cortisol (the stress hormone), helping you feel more at peace. If you’re new to meditation, there are plenty of resources to guide you. My favorite apps include 1 Giant Mind, Headspace, and Calm. You can also find helpful meditation podcasts on Spotify or guided sessions on YouTube.
Create and Enjoy a Cozy Environment
The space around us has a big impact on how we feel. Creating a cozy, inviting atmosphere can instantly make you feel happier and more relaxed.
Here are some ideas: Light some candles or fairy lights, prepare your favorite hot drink, and lose yourself in a nostalgic romantic movie, a favorite book, or a hobby you love. And don’t forget fresh flowers! Whether they’re a gift from someone or a treat for yourself, flowers have a magical way of reminding us to appreciate life’s simple beauty.
Hope this little guide helps you feel happier and more relaxed 🌸
