Ugíjar, Spain

Sometimes when we travel, we find ourselves in hidden places, untouched by the crowds of tourists.

Ugíjar was one of those places.

While exploring the mountains, we decided to stop at the nearest store to get some water – and unexpectedly stumbled upon this little village perched high above the valley. It turned out to be incredibly charming and peaceful, filled with the soft sounds of birds chirping and surrounded by stunning views.

These are the kinds of journeys I find most meaningful. Exploring secluded places allows us to experience the true culture in a quieter, more authentic way.

It’s believed that during the Roman Empire, the town was called Hortum Sacrum, meaning “Sacred Garden” in Latin – a name that still feels fitting today, as it truly feels like a place quietly tucked away.

In the end, it reminded us that sometimes the most beautiful places are the ones we never planned to find.

And the little hearts on the street signs? Aren’t they cute? 🙂
